FANS: 5 Minutes with … @Charley_Fletch

In a series of quick fire questions, we ask Wigan fans for their views and predictions on Wigan and Rugby League

Your first Wigan game?

My first ever game was against St Helens in 2005. My dad took me to the game and I’ve never looked back since, my day got even better as Paul Prescott picked out my number raffle ticket in the South Stand Lounge after the game, I won a Wigan teddy!

What is your most memorable moment being a Wigan fan?

For me it would be winning the World Club Challenge in 2017. I started watching Wigan too late to see the last WCC wins, and as much as I’ve loved seeing us win League Leaders, The Grand Final and The Challenge Cup, to see them be crowned best team in the World was special

Who is your favourite all-time Wigan player?

It has to be Iafeta Paleaaesina, so much so that it’s never troubled me spelling his name, haha.

I’ve always been a fan of the big props etc and I always got that buzz when the ball came to Feka for him to knock a few players out of the way. Such a lovely person off the field too!

Who is your favourite Wigan player?

Currently I would say Tommy Leuluai, I always regard him as my favourite number 7 and to see him back in a Wigan shirt is amazing. Even more amazing that he’s playing out of his skin, as good as ever.

Name one player that you would love to see play for Wigan – past or present

Ryan Hall. We’ve had so many good wingers at Wigan but the way Hall towers over everyone and powers down his wing does give me that feeling that he would fit in so well as a Cherry and White

What is your favourite away ground and why?

I think Warrington. It’s easy to get to and it’s ALWAYS a fantastic atmosphere. There’s so much fire between the fans, so it’s noisy but always enjoyable. I’ve known us to go there and lose but still leave the ground partying, that’s what Away days are about

Which opposition player do you fear the most when they play Wigan?

It has to be James Roby. In a Derby you always want to walk away knowing your team has won, I think Roby has the ability to change a game for Saints so I worry when he’s in the squad….sometimes

Your top 8 prediction for this year?

  1. Wigan
  2. Hull FC
  3. Warrington
  4. Castleford
  5. St Helens
  6. Leeds
  7. Widnes
  8. Salford

If you could change one thing about Rugby League, what would it be?

I’d love it to be a much bigger sport. I tell a lot of people that I like Rugby and they assume I like Union, it couldn’t be further from the truth. With the right promotion and high intensity games, this game could grow by thousands each year. It is starting to do so with Magic Weekend on the road

Who do you think will win the Steve Prescott Man of Steel Award this year?

George Williams. He’s the stand out player of the league so far and he is well on his way to that MOS title
